- What services does your business provide?
General Insurance Broking. Our real purpose is to make the insurance policies that our customers spend their money on actually work for them. In most cases, without the ongoing attention of an insurance professional the policies can end up working for the insurers at the time of a claim.
- How long has your business been running?
We started in 1999, so 22 years young.
- How long have you lived in Cairns?
I was born at the Cairns Base Hospital and I’ve lived here all my life.
- Where is your favourite place in Far North Queensland?
There are so many to choose from, but Fitzroy Island has to be up there with the best. It’s the best place to go for a weekend away with the family and no one is on their devices because it’s pretty much a dead zone for mobile coverage.
- What is your favourite quote?
It’s a long way to the top if you wanna rock n roll.
- Who is someone who inspires you?
One of my long-standing customers stands out. They run a local tour business and, staring down the barrel of the pandemic that brought the tourism industry to its knees, they adapted their business model, came up with some out-of-the-box thinking and excelled to get through the year well in front of where she could have been.
- What do you hope to achieve with your business in 2021?
My team and I recently travelled to Sydney to raise awareness (and make a lot of noise) with some insurance company executives regarding the high prices we all pay for insurance cover up here in FNQ. We went armed with lots of examples of unfair premium increases that those in our region have had to endure and using claims data we demonstrated to the executive teams how unbalanced their pricing is in FNQ compared to the rest of Australia.
So to answer the question, it would simply be nice to be able to see some premium relief come through for our customers in 2021… because they’ve earned it!
