Anzac Day Services and Road Closures

Anzac Day services held across the region on Tuesday, 25 April, will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the end of Australia’s involvement in the Vietnam War. After a shortened March last year, the Cairns Services Parade will return to its traditional route, commencing at Fogarty Park and proceeding down the Esplanade past the Cenotaph. Residents unable to attend the Cairns services in person can watch the live stream on Cairns Regional Council’s YouTube channel or Facebook page starting at 5.25 am.

Services throughout the region


Dawn Service

Parade assembles – 4 am at RSL Memorial Hall.

The parade falls in – at 4.15 am, and the community assembles at Anzac Park, Munro St.

Commemorative March – 4.20 am to Anzac Park (Cenotaph) followed by service and wreath laying.

Morning Parade and Commemorative Service

Parade participants assemble at RSL – at 9.45 am at Memorial Hall, School St.

Commemorative March – 10 am along Munro St and onto Anzac Park (Cenotaph), followed by service and wreath laying.

Road closures: 9.45 am to 10.30 am – School St from Church St to Munro St; Munro St from Knowles St to Mill St.


Dawn service – 5.30 am at the Cenotaph, Cairns Esplanade.

March – 7.30 am, from Fogarty Park, along the Esplanade past the Cenotaph.

Commemorative service – 8 am (following the March) at the Cenotaph.

Road closures3 am to 10 am – Cairns Esplanade roadway will be closed between Spence St and Minnie St.

7 am to 8 am – changed traffic conditions to Pier Point Rd, Shields St, Aplin St, Florence St and Minnie St to accommodate the March.

Manunda (war graves cemetery)

Dawn assembly – 4 am, at the entry to Martyn Street Cemetery.

Service – 4.28 am, War graves section.

Road closures: nil


Dawn parade – 5 am assemble at Cenotaph at Fuller Park.

Dawn service – 5.30 am at Cenotaph at Fuller Park.

Services parade – 6.30 am assembly at Fuller Park, 7 am march commences and proceeds along Wolff St, Cattle St, Services Rd to the Fuller Sports Club, parking lot (entrance from Service road).

Road closures: 5 am to 8 am – Wolff St from Fuller Park to Cattle St; Cattle St to Bruce Highway (service road); Service Road (part closure).


Dawn Parade

A gunfire breakfast – 3.30 am Gordonvale RSL Annex (next to the tennis court in Norman Park).

Parade assembles – 4am on Gordon St.

Dawn service – 4.15 am at Norman Park Cenotaph.

Commemorative Service

Parade assembles – 9 am at Gordonvale State Primary School.

Commemorative March – 9.30 am from Gordonvale Primary School to Norman Park Cenotaph.

Commemorative service – 10 am, Norman Park Cenotaph.

Road closures: 9 am to 11 am – Gordon St, from Mills St to Norman St; Norman St from Gordon St to George St; Cannon St from Norman St to George St; George St from Cannon St to Sheppards St.


Commemorative Service

Parade participants form-up – 9.30 am on Magazine St.

Services Parade – 9.50 am, from Magazine St; catafalque to March to Cenotaph; Commemorative Parade to March to park near Stratford Bowls Club.

Commemorative Service – 10.07 am.

Road closures: 8 am to 11.15 am – Magazine St, from Arnold St to Rinks Close; Rinks Close, from Stratford Parade to Magazine St; no access to Arnold St from Captain Cook Hwy; no access to Stratford Connection Road railway crossing. 

Trinity Beach

Dawn Parade

Commemoration service – 5.30 am.

Catafalque party takes post, service and wreath laying at Trinity Beach memorial – 5.45 am.

March-past to conclude the ceremony.

Road closures: 5 am to 8 am – Vasey Esplanade from Trinity Beach Rd to Possum St.

Yorkeys Knob

Commemorative service

Service – 8.30 am at Boat Club Marina.

Road closures: Nil
