Assaulter arrested

A 28-YEAR-OLD Manoora man was arrested for assault over the weekend following a disturbance at a Murray Street address.

It will be alleged at 10.30pm on 7 January the man was arguing with a woman on the corner of Marchant and Murray St when he punched her in the face.

The woman was taken to Cairns Hospital for treatment and it is believed the man and woman were known to each other.

Police allege the man again confronted the woman at White Rock on 15 January, verbally abusing her before being forced to flee by other people at the location.

It will also be alleged the man had assaulted the same woman in November of last year.

The man has been charged with two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm and three counts of contravention of a domestic violence order – he was refused bail and appeared before Cairns Magistrates Court on 22 January.
