Attempted robberies in Cairns

POLICE are seeking assistance from the public in relation to two separate attempted robberies that took place last night, one involving a 51-year-old woman.

The woman was walking with her 10-year-old child on the footpath along Bunda Street, Parramatta Park at around 12.10pm and 12.40pm when a female suspect rushed toward her at speed and punched her in the chest, knocking her to the ground before attempting to steal her handbag.

The child screamed before the offender fled on foot and police attended the scene a short time later to find the woman and child being attended to by good Samaritans after the woman sustained non-life threatening head and arm injuries.

Police conveyed the woman and child to hospital and are appealing for public assistance from motorists with dash camera vision in the area.

The suspect is described as a female, unknown age, with a dark complexion and possibly wearing black coloured shorts.

In a separate incident, an 18-year-old Edmonton man was riding his bike on Hambledon Drive, when an unknown man stood in front of him, demanding he hand over his bike.

The unknown man punched the 18-year-old in the face and attempted to steal his bike, the 18-year-old fought back, retained his bike, and fled, before reporting the incident to police.

The unknown man is described as First Nations in appearance, approximately 20-years-old, about 173cm tall, with an average build. He was wearing a black hoodie pulled up, khaki knee length shorts, and was travelling with a mountain bike.
