Businesses gain insight

CAIRNS businesses gained insight into Cairns Regional Council’s upcoming works during the recent sold-out Infrastructure and Assets Annual Industry Briefing.

More than 100 business representatives attended the annual briefing which provides a comprehensive overview of the Directorate’s Capital Works Program for 2023-26.

The annual briefing has become a pivotal platform for local businesses seeking to collaborate with council on various projects, enabling them to plan and prepare for future tenders or bids.

Deputy Mayor Terry James said having the right tools and support to navigate government tender process was integral to business success.

“As a small business friendly council, we take pride in our commitment to supporting small businesses and spending money locally,” he said.

“For example, we spent $383 million in the 2021/22 year with 88 per cent of that being invested back into local businesses.

“Council’s aim is to partner with local industry to ensure businesses thrive in Cairns.”

Attendees gained valuable insights into upcoming council works and projects, spanning a wide range of services, from consultancies to construction.

The event program was packed with informative presentations highlighting a summary of upcoming works and an overview of the procurement process.

This year’s briefing introduced a unique “speed networking” component to further improve collaboration between council staff and businesses.

Business representatives had the chance to engage in fast-paced, one-on-one sessions with key council executives, seeking specific and relevant information to enhance their understanding of doing business with council.

For businesses that couldn’t attend the event, the council will be sharing the key highlights and resources from the briefing to ensure all interested parties can access the valuable information presented.
