May the fourth “beer” with you

THE Cairns Craft Beer Festival is back with a Star Wars twist in 2024, with a frothing good lineup of ales from six of North Queensland’s craft breweries, delicious pub grub, lively entertainment, and competitions from noon until late on Saturday, 4 May.

Now in its fifth year, the Cairns Craft Beer Festival is a popular event on the region’s calendar, attracting beer lovers from near and far to celebrate the region’s craft brewing all-stars that include Maggie Island BrewingMacalister Brewing CoCoral Sea Brewing CoCopperlode Brewing CoBillycart Brewing Co, and festival host Hemingway’s Brewery

Each brewery will be brewing a specialty beer for the event and, for the first time, compete for a People’s Choice Award, with the winner taking home a special trophy in the shape of a mini keg with the CCBF logo.

Headlining the live and local music bill for the day will be entertainment from The Joker PokersBig Pups, and The Nightshift while a range of food stalls showcasing local produce will keep the energy flowing.

Added to the mix are mini-games for the whole family, a Tinnie Slide challenge between participating brewers, and great prizes to be won.

Cairns Craft Beer Festival organiser and Hemingway’s Brewery’s Head of Hospitality, Roman Haslinger, said craft beer, hand-made using a unique blend of hops and yeast to achieve distinct and diverse flavour profiles, relies on a good deal of ingenuity and flair.

“Craft brewers are passionate about their art and the purity of quality ingredients; therefore, the product speaks for itself, delivering the ultimate sense of place and enjoyment,” Ms Haslinger said.

“When combined, these elements create the perfect platform for a festival showcase and celebration.”

The fifth annual Cairns Craft Beer Festival is family-friendly and free to enter.

It will be held on Saturday, 4 May 2024, from 12 noon at Hemingway’s Brewery, Wharf Street, Cairns.
