Cairns employment event to engage job seekers

CAIRNS job seekers can attend a free public event to engage on the subject of jobs and upskilling in the region this month thanks to Local Jobs Cairns.

Local Jobs Cairns is hosting a public Q&A event on 30th April highlighting current and future jobs, how to access employment support services and the options for local pathways to employment.

Employers, job seekers, job changers, students and school leavers will come together to share stories, ask questions and learn about the range of jobs and training available locally.

A panel of leading employers, employment experts and award winning apprentices will discuss the current job market, the pathways to work in our region and highlight the trade and tertiary learning opportunities from Mossman to Cardwell and out to the western Tablelands.

Employment Facilitator and Workforce North convenor Tamlyn Brennan said the key industries and ways to access them in the Cairns region have changed.

“This event is for people who want to know what their work future looks like in Cairns and how they can connect with the right supports to make it happen; and for employers to understand the pathways that will fuel their future workforces,” she said.

A jobs board will display current employment opportunities and keen candidates can talk with employers and employment and training providers.

Free attendance is limited to 150 for the 5 pm event, to be held at the newly opened Screen Queensland Studios in Cairns and registration is available online at CAIRNS JOBS Q&A Tickets, Tue, Apr 30, 2024 at 5:00 PM | Eventbrite.

The Local Jobs Program aims to ensure the maximum number of people are placed in appropriate employment or training opportunities as quickly as possible to meet employer needs as labour markets recover.

To achieve this, expertise, resources, and access to funding are brought together at the local level to focus on reskilling, upskilling, and employment pathways.

Key stakeholders including employers, employment services providers, higher education and training organisations work collaboratively to design projects that skill people to meet the needs of local employers.
