Sibling entrepreneur duo take over Cairns events scene

CAIRNS events are growing ever more Pinterest-worthy after a pair of entrepreneurial siblings have brought their talents to the scene.

Taylor Baty and her brother Ben, who grew up in the Far North, purchased event styling business Two Sisters in March 2022 and rebranded it as Revelry Events & Styling.

According to Ms Baty, who was running a paint and sip business as a “side hustle” while working full time when the opportunity to buy Two Sisters arose, the duo decided to take the plunge.

Before they knew it, they were working their day jobs during the week and spending their weekends styling events all over Cairns.

The pair have been involved in the Cairns Italian Festival two years in a row and have styled private events as well, an experience they call challenging but rewarding.

In January of this year, Ben and Taylor purchased The Coco Balloon, another established Cairns events business, in order to expand their offerings to the events industry.

This has only served to fill up their days even more as the pair continue to juggle day jobs and both businesses – a huge undertaking.

Revelry Events & Styling specialises in event styling, offering an array of design options that cater to various occasions, from weddings to corporate events. The Coco Balloon, on the other hand, adds an extra layer of creativity with its unique balloon and custom signage offerings.

Ms Baty said the balloons aspect of their work is very fast-paced and keeps them busy.

Instead of just focusing on one main event for weeks or months at a time, we can bounce to up to 8 jobs in a single day on weekends

“The world of balloons is something I hadn’t had much exposure to before we bought the business and there are so many people doing amazing things all over the world – it’s really exciting to see.”

The busyness of The Coco Balloon has meant the duo have had to become very selective with which jobs they can take on for Revelry Events & Styling.

“That has been really hard to grapple with as of course, we’d like to say yes to everyone,” Ms Baty said.

As Christmas approaches, the siblings aren’t sure what to expect in their first year of owning The Coco Balloon, but they look forward to the silly season.

“We have been spending some time on what we want to put out there for Christmas with some exciting new products coming very soon,” Ms Baty said.

“We are almost fully booked through the November period already with work Christmas parties, and December enquiries are rolling in which is a great thing to see.”

The Baty siblings love when customers bring them new ideas or concepts they have seen that are different to their regular balloon set ups, giving them the chance to develop new skills and increase their offerings while keeping up with the evolving events industry.

As for what’s next, Ms Baty said they are excited to be launching a website soon where customers can place orders directly.

“This has been a huge chunk of work and something that has been a long time coming,” she said.

“We’re really hoping this will allow us to better service our existing customers as well as introduce us to new customers in Cairns and the surrounding areas.”
