Child groomer arrested by police

A BAYVIEW Heights man has been charged with multiple offences including exploitation of a child under 16 after his home was raided by police recently.

Police executed a search warrant of the 20-year-old’s home and seized a quantity of cannabis, clip seal bags containing capsules and an orange pill, as well as multiple devices including mobile phones and laptops.

The man allegedly engaged in inappropriate sexual behaviour with two girls on social media platforms on separate occasions, which subsequently progressed to physical encounters.

It is further alleged the man bought the girls gifts and used recording devices to make videos of his encounters with the girls.

The man was charged with a total 19 offences including, three counts of grooming a child under 16 years, seven counts of carnal knowledge of a child under 16, four counts of indecent treatment of a child under 16, one count each of making child exploitation material, possessing child exploitation material, and possess dangerous drugs.

Detective Inspector Jason Chetham says protecting vulnerable young people is Queensland Police Service’s top priority.

“We continue to investigate all reports of offences against children, arrest and charge alleged offenders within the full force of the law,” he said.

“The immense bravery of victims’ in these matters to come forward and speak to police, allows the QPS to track down these offenders and put them before the courts.”

The man is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on September 15.
