DOUGLAS Shire Council has this week accepted the resignation of Council Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Rachel Brophy after just over two years in the role.
Douglas Shire Mayor Liza Scomazzon thanked Ms Brophy for her continued dedication, professionalism, and commitment during good times and challenging situations as she supported elected members, the broader council team, and the community.
“Rachel has achieved many great outcomes for the community,” Cr Scomazzon said.
“These include the construction of the Mossman Splash Park, new bike paths, and new lighting at the Mossman Showgrounds, leading our eco-tourism certification, and securing the Queensland Symphony Orchestra as the headline act to celebrate Carnivale’s 30th anniversary.”
According to the mayor, Ms Brophy successfully led the council’s response to ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper after it saw unprecedented damage across the Shire.
“She worked tirelessly, advocating to the State and Federal Governments to ensure funding for Douglas’s water security and single-handedly commissioning process engineers from Brisbane and Sydney to work alongside Council staff in the aftermath of the monsoonal rain event,” Cr Scomazzon said.
“On behalf of Councillors, we wish Rachel the best as she spends time with her family.”
Ms Brophy’s last day with Council will be 9 July, with Councillor Paul Hoye expected to fill the role in a temporary capacity from 10 July until a new CEO is recruited.
The resignation comes as the council advertises to fill several positions, including for a General Manager and a Chief Engineer.
