LOCAL police are urging residents ‘to lock up and to look out’ after multiple reported break and enters on Thursday, 26 October resulted in multiple cars being stolen.
Between 10pm and 11.30pm on Wednesday, 25 October, offenders gained entry to an unlocked house on Mourilyan Road in East Innisfail, and stole a wallet and car keys which were used to steal the vehicle from the address.
The silver 2019 Mazda CX5, was located the following day on Kent Close in Mission Beach.
Between 11.30pm on the same day and 1am on Thursday, 26 October offenders gained entry to a Porter Promenade residence through an open window, stealing a wallet, phone and car keys which were use to steal a vehicle at the address, a 2010 black Toyota Hilux.
Between midnight and 4am on Thursday, 26 October, the offenders gained entry to an unlocked house on Kent Street in Mission Beach and stole a silver 2014 Honda CR-V from the residence with a Queensland registration of 932XTE.
At around midnight on Thursday, 26 October, alleged offenders damaged a security screen in an attempt to gain entry to a Seaview Street address.
Police are urging all residents to lock doors, even while at home, and remove car keys from their vehicles.
Some crime prevention tips to keep in mind is that you should treat your keys like you would money, you wouldn’t leave $80,000 sitting on the bench, so don’t risk it.
Become familiar with your surroundings, neighbours and the cars that they drive.
If you see a car that looks out of place, isn’t usually parked in or near you, or you have doubt as to why it is parked there, then don’t ignore it and report it to police.
Police encourage the public to report any suspicious activity either online, phone or in person – a simple phone call may solve a series of crimes or simply reunite a rightful owner with their vehicle.
