Police: Stolen Car Charges, Aeroglen

Police have charged two people after an allegedly stolen vehicle was tracked in Aeroglen late last Friday night. 

It will be alleged at approximately 10 pm. Police observed a Nissan Micra reported as stolen while travelling along Captain Cook Highway.

A tyre deflation device was successfully deployed, and the vehicle stopped along Arnold Street.

The driver, a 41-year-old Bungalow man, allegedly attempted to leave on foot but was taken into custody without incident soon after.

A 22-year-old Manoora woman, a passenger in the vehicle, was also taken into custody. It will be alleged that both people were in possession of a small quantity of methylamphetamine.

The man was charged with one count of unlawful motor vehicle use, receiving tainted property, possessing dangerous drugs, evasion offence, unlawful possession of the suspected stolen property and unlicensed driving.

He is due to re-appear at Cairns Magistrates Court on February 23.

The woman was charged with one count of unlawful motor vehicle use and possessing dangerous drugs. She is due to appear at Cairns Magistrates Court on March 3.

Multiple Charges, Cairns

A 36-year-old Gordonvale man has been charged with 11 offences, including evading police, following a string of alleged thefts in Cairns dating back to November 22.

It is alleged at approximately 8.30 pm Sunday, police successfully deployed a tyre deflation device near Moody Street in Manoora after the man failed to pull over.

The alleged driver was taken into police custody and charged with two counts each of entering the premise, stealing and unlicenced driving, and one count each of entering the dwelling and committing evasion offence, possessing property suspected of having been used in the commission of an offence, possessing dangerous drugs and receiving tainted property.

His bail was denied, and he is due to appear at Cairns Magistrates Court yesterday.

Break and Enter Charges, Bayview Heights

Four people have been charged after an alleged break and enter in Bayview Heights on Sunday/

It will be alleged that at approximately 12.20 pm, police were notified of two suspicious vehicles parked at a property on Falcon Street. Police arrived and conducted a search of vehicles, locating the property that had been allegedly stolen from a nearby garage.

A 39-year-old Manoora woman was charged with one count of entering the premise and committing an indictable offence.

A 46-year-old Manoora man was charged with one count each of entering the premise, committing an indictable offence, and possessing a day instrument of housebreaking with intent to commit.

A 40-year-old Machans Beach man was charged with one count each of entering the premise and committing an indictable offence and unlicenced driving.

A 43-year-old Malanda man was charged with one count each of entering the premise, committing an indictable offence, and possessing a knife in a public place.

All four are due to appear at Cairns Magistrates Court on February 27.

Fraud Charge, Cairns

A 36-year-old Earlville man has been charged with fraud following investigations into a string of alleged incidents where a stolen bank card was used to purchase goods.

Police will allege this occurred across Cairns over several days in October before the card was cancelled. Investigations lead police to locate a 36-year-old man. He was subsequently charged with one count of fraud.

The 36-year-old man will appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on February 28.
