Free Dog Registration is Only a Selfie Away

Attention all dog owners! Get ready to capture the perfect moment with your furry friend and a Council Proactive Patrol officer, as you could win one of 20 free dog registrations. Commencing today, the Cairns Regional Council will award five lucky winners with complimentary dog registrations each week until the final date of 9 June. It’s time to strike a pose with your beloved companion and seize the chance to win.

Mayor Bob Manning said Council’s Proactive Patrol team visits popular parks and reserves during peak dog walking times daily to educate owners on responsible pet ownership.

“By being out and about in the community, our officers are a visual reminder for dog owners to be courteous to other users of our public spaces, including keeping their dog on a lead where required,” Cr Manning said.

We always take an ‘education first’ approach, with officers focussed on providing advice on how to be a great pet owner rather than issuing fines

Over the next four weeks, I encourage residents to stop and chat to one of our officers. It’s a great opportunity to get some advice on having a dog in Cairns and answers to any questions you may have.”

It is simple to enter: stop and chat with one of Council’s Animal Management Proactive Patrol officers, take a selfie with the officer and your pooch, and post to your Facebook or Instagram page tagging @CairnsPets. Hint: make sure your post is set to ‘public’.

Proactive Patrol officers frequently visit these locations:

North: AFL Oval (Trinity Beach); Machans Beach, Holloways Beach, Yorkeys Knob, Trinity Beach and Clifton Beach esplanades / foreshores; Silver Cresent Dog Park; Barron Waters Park; Goomboora Park; Loridan Drive Park; The Rocks; Rainy Mountain Park, the Redlynch cycle path.

Central: Botanic Gardens precinct including Centenary Lakes; Endeavour Park; Engineers Park; Aeroglen Touch Fields; Jalarra Park; the Esplanade including Muddys; North Cairns Reserve; De Jarlais Street Dog Park; and Hoad Street Park.

South: Forest Gardens Duck Park; Fuller Park; Giffin Road Park; Jashar Park; Petersen Park; Fisher Road Park; Cadell Park; Gordonvale Cemetery; Norman Park; and Walker Road Sports Precinct.

So, grab your camera, prepare for some memorable moments, and let the competition begin!
