CAIRNS Regional Council is offering free green waste disposal from this weekend, commencing 18 May and continuing until 26 May.
Residential green waste can be dropped off free of charge at the Portsmith, Smithfield, Gordonvale, and Babinda Transfer Stations, seven days a week, from 8.30 am to 5.15 pm.
People taking advantage of this month’s free green waste disposal period are encouraged to make a voluntary gold coin donation, which will support the Far North Queensland Youth Assistance Fund.
Established in 1972 to assist disadvantaged Far North Queensland children and youth in their education, sporting and cultural activities, the fund has provided $4.4 million in financial assistance over the past four decades.
Each year the Cairns Regional Council offers four free green waste disposal periods to residents.
The free green waste offer is for cars, utilities and/or trailers and light trucks (vehicle weight to GVM 4 tonnes).
Normal rates apply for disposal of any other waste during this period, including green waste from garden maintenance contractors on behalf of residents.
