A JOYRIDE ended abruptly yesterday after officers from the Tactical Crime Squad deployed a tyre deflation device and successfully stopped an alleged stolen vehicle in Cairns North.
Three youths aged 14 and 15 years have been taken into custody after they were allegedly involved in the theft of the silver Mazda sedan from a Bentley Park residence on November 5 along with the theft of fuel from a Cairns North service station around 3:40am on the same day.
The trio also stole a handbag from a woman on Grafton Street around 3:55pm yesterday, 7 November. The woman was not physically injured.
A 14-year-old Manoora girl was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing, receiving tainted property, possession of a dangerous drug and three counts of breaching a bail condition.
A 15-year-old Edmonton boy was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing and receiving tainted property.
A 14-year-old Gordonvale boy was charged with three counts each of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and stealing, four counts of breaching a bail condition, two counts each of entering a dwelling and receiving tainted property, and one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and unlicenced driving.
All three youths were denied police bail and are scheduled to appear in the Cairns Childrens Court.
Police investigations are ongoing regarding further alleged offences committed in the Cairns area.
