Man arrested after ramming car and assaulting driver

A GORDONVALE man has been arrested after he rammed a vehicle and chased the victim to the hospital, dragging her from her car and assaulting her.

The 29-year-old man was arrested yesterday following the incident which occurred in Babinda on 1 January.

It is alleged a woman was driving between Cairns and Babinda in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

It is further alleged that when she arrived in Babinda the man rammed her vehicle, forcing her from the road.

The woman was able to drive to the Babinda hospital where the man allegedly dragged her from her vehicle and assaulted her before fleeing the area.

Police also allege the man was involved in several other offences in the Cairns area over the preceding weeks.

The man was arrested on Abbott Street yesterday and charged with three counts of stealing, two counts of unlawful use of motor vehicle and one count each of assault occasioning bodily harm, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, contravention of a domestic violence order, breach of bail conditions and driving unlicensed.

The man was refused bail and will appear before Cairns Magistrates Court today, 10 January.
