Men arrested for strangulation

TWO Cairns men have been arrested on separate strangulation charges in Edmonton with one involving the Cairns District Domestic Violence High Risk Team yesterday.

Police allege that during yesterday’s incident a 47-year-old Holloways Beach man forced his way into a home, choking and assaulting the woman inside. She was transported to the Cairns Hospital for treatment.

The man was charged with one count each of domestic violence enter with intent, domestic violence assault occasioning bodily harm, domestic violence strangulation and obstruct police and two counts of domestic violence common assault.

Police refused bail and he was scheduled to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court today.

In the second incident police arrested a man believed to have been involved in a domestic violence incident last week.

It is alleged that during the incident on 13 October, the 33-year-old man threatened, assaulted and strangled a woman.

He was charged with four counts of domestic violence common assault, and one count each of domestic violence strangulation and domestic violence threatening violence.

He appeared in the Innisfail Magistrates Court on Saturday however was remanded until his next appearance in the Cairns Magistrates Court today.
