CAIRNS Detectives have charged a 58-year-old Kamerunga woman following the death of a man in his eighties in Palm Cove overnight.
Police were called to an address on Williams Esplanade following an alleged serious assault around 10.50pm.
Upon arrival, emergency services located the man with several stab wounds where officers administered first aid.
A short time after ambulance services arrived and transported the man to Cairns Hospital in a critical condition but he passed away from his injures.
A 58-year-old Kamerunga woman was taken into custody at the scene and has been charged with one count of murder.
She remains in custody and will appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court tomorrow, 11 January.
Police are unsure at this stage if the two were known to each other but investigations are continuing into the circumstances leading up to the incident.
