A NEW craft brewery in Edmonton has opened to fanfare this month, drawing locals eager for a new watering hole with a difference over the Father’s Day weekend.
Copperlode Brewing Co. has been in the works for over 18 months and has a total of twelve partners behind it, who have come together to open a small but bustling brewery that gives Cairns south siders a new local.
General manager Shaun McKay said that the location at 1 Hargreaves Street was a drawcard, given the lack of breweries on the southside of Cairns.
“The whole opening weekend was fantastic, and we’ve had really strong support,” he said.
“The intent was never to just have a pub; it was to offer a place that people could come and make their own.
We just wanted people to have a place where beer tastes like beer

For head brewer Morgan Hind, the work doesn’t stop when the doors are shut – he is constantly tending to the tanks lining the right-hand wall of the venue, perfecting Copperlode’s exclusive brews.
“We’ve currently got four beers on tap and we’re looking to expand that range,” he said.
“Two favourites at the moment are our River Lizard lager and our Red Dust draught.
“They’re classically inspired beers, Australian classics, and they’ve been a big hit.”

Mr Hind and his associates plan to offer seasonal flavours and fruitier, more hoppy varietals to keep things interesting for locals.
Open Thursday to Sunday, the Edmonton locale will play host to food trucks and live entertainment including local musicians and trivia nights each weekend.
Copperlode Brewing Co. will feature beers at Oktoberfest at Hemingway’s on October 7, joining other far north breweries and caterers at the popular Bavarian-inspired event.
