Offering more than just shopping, the launch of a new NightOwl store at Clifton Beach opens up the petrol and convenience market to the Northern Beaches.
NightOwl Convenience Franchisor, Adam Adams, has announced he is looking forward to bringing the national convenience brand to Cairns’ northside at the Clifton Village site on the Captain Cook Highway. NightOwl will be incorporated into the site currently occupied by a Mobil service station, Clifton Village Takeaway and Bransfords Tackle Shop. The site will be upgraded, while maintaining spaces for existing stores.
“This opportunity is a significant addition for us and we’re confident that we will be offering northside customers a unique market proposition,” says Adam.
“While the NightOwl store will be focusing on convenience, maintaining the long-established renowned offer of Clifton Village Takeaway burgers to the local community is also an instrumental part of the property.
“Combining convenience goods, hot food and fuel sales is a proven and highly successful model, so we are delighted to have signed this deal. This modern service station will offer Northern Beaches commuters quality and convenience.”
NightOwl Convenience is a national brand that has been operational for more than 40 years as Australia’s first 24-hour trading convenience retail business. Since the first store opened in Auchenflower in Brisbane in 1975, the brand’s network has expanded nationally, reaching across Queensland, NSW and Western Australia.
The company is privately owned by Adam and his wife Katrina, who acquired it in 2007 after owning NightOwl Convenience franchises in Cairns for the previous five years.

Today, NightOwl has more than 20 operational petrol and convenience sites associated with four major fuel retailers. With its distinctive yellow logo, NightOwl is well known for providing traditional grocery items, fresh fruit and vegetables and hot food 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
In addition, in support of the recent historic move by the Queensland Government to bring into effect the ban on all single-use plastics, all NightOwl stores nationally are pulling single-use plastic products off the shelves by September. This includes, but is not limited to, plastic cutlery, cups and plates.
“NightOwl always strives to have the best value and comprehensive range for the space we occupy,” says Adam.
“Expanding to the north was a very straightforward decision. This spot at Clifton Village is a very well-established area and has great exposure to the highway. The service station has excellent access and it’s the gateway to Cairns and to further north.”
“NightOwl Convenience encompasses a community and family-based set of values that often has our business development managers looking for opportunities in regional areas. We will be continuing
that local connection with staffing and community goodwill.”
Commuters travelling both to and through Cairns will experience fast and easy refuelling, with all the basic essentials available in store, providing a value-based shopping experience.
