KENFROST Northern Pride had a victory against the Ipswich Jets over the weekend, beating them 56-12 in round 8 of the QRL Queensland Cup, securing first place on the ladder.
The team showed resilience through defence in the first 20 minutes and despite conceding a try early on, they rallied and turned their defensive effort into points through Jensen Taumopeau.
Coach Eric Smith was impressed with the men’s resilience and was pleased to report no injury concerns, meaning the club heads into round 9 this weekend against the PNG Hunters with a full squad to select from once more.
He said round 9 is an exciting opportunity for the team to test their mettle agains the PNG Hunters in Papua New Guinea.
“This away game presents a unique challenge, but it’s one our team is fully prepared to tackle head-on,” he said.
“As always, PNG will be very physical and will be a formidable opponent on their home soil.”
The Hunters are coming off a convincing win themselves, defeating the Blackhawks 52-16 in Townsville over the weekend.
The Pride’s previous two games facing PNG in 2023 were victories, both at home and away in PNG.
This weekend’s game will be played on Saturday, 11 May at 3 pm at Santos National Stadium, Port Moresby, with coverage on Qplus.
