CAIRNS locals can now enjoy the sweetness of açai straight from the Amazon and the picturesque views of the Esplanade with the opening of Oakberry Açai in the dining precinct.
Excited locals lined the block on Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 September, eager to be among the first 50 customers per day to receive a free açai bowl.
Founded in Brazil in 2016, Oakberry Açai now has over 600 locations in 35 countries across the globe, all serving organic açai from the Amazon Rainforest.
Cairns store manager Matheus Ramos owns the franchise as one of three partners – one of which is Oakberry Australia, who serve as a head office and source of support for the newly opened store.
Mr Ramos said the opening weekend was a huge success and that the first week has continued to exceed expectations.
“We were expecting to be busy over the weekend, but it’s also been surprisingly busy through the week,” he said.
“Açai bowls go really well with the weather in Cairns so that helps.
“As the temperature increases, we hope to increase in sales as well.”

The team of ten comprises a mix of locals and expatriates, which Mr Ramos feels adds to the multicultural vibe of Oakberry.
Alongside team member Julieta Dotto, Mr Ramos spent some time training with Oakberry in Sydney ahead of opening the Cairns store.

Oakberry Açai Australia CEO Renan Fretes said the Cairns shop’s opening day was a triumph, leaving the team brimming with excitement and gratitude.
“The vibrant atmosphere buzzed with good vibes as we welcomed the Cairns community with open arms,” he said.
“Remarkably, the free treats were devoured within an hour each day, a clear testament to the community’s enthusiasm for our açai bowls.”
Oakberry Açai Cairns is open 8am-8pm seven days in the Cairns Esplanade dining precinct.
