CAIRNS officers involved in the recovery of four stolen Golden Retriever puppies jumped at the opportunity to conduct a welfare check on the adorable puppies they helped to return home.
Owner Andrea expressed her sincere gratitude to the officers, who were content with being rewarded for their efforts with loads of puppy cuddles.
“I’ve had constant contact from the police checking to see that I’m well and that I’m fine, so it’s been really lovely,” Andrea said.
“The pups have all grown so much and they are very happy and healthy which is fantastic – couldn’t have asked for better.”
Detectives from the Property Crime Unit have charged a 15-year-old Bentley Park boy with further offences following investigations into the theft of the four puppies.
Detectives charged with boy with animal cruelty and three counts of breaching bail – he is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Childrens Court at a later date.
In total, police have charged seven teenagers aged between 15 and 18 years with a range of offences relating to the theft of the puppies, burglary, and theft of property.
