Overnight Police Crime Wrap

Police charged a 50-year-old Edmonton man after investigating a report of alleged break-ins at a Spence Street business. It will be alleged that the man broke into the business several times throughout December 2022, stealing cash and stock from the store.

Last Friday, a search warrant was conducted at a Pyne Street, Edmonton home, with police allegedly locating and seizing stolen property, including a large turtle shell. Police also allegedly located and seized a quantity of cannabis.

He was charged with one count each of entering the premise and committing an indictable offence, possessing dangerous drugs, keeping native wildlife reasonably suspected of having been unlawfully taken and unlawful possession of the suspected stolen property.

The man will appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on March 2.

Grievous bodily harm, Cairns North

A 44-year-old Westcourt man was charged overnight after police were called to a disturbance at a Lake Street business.

It will be alleged a 74-year-old man was punched and kicked several times by the younger man following a verbal dispute.

Police attended and arrested the younger man at the scene. The victim was taken to Cairns Hospital, where he is being treated for a serious injury.

The 44-year-old man was charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm and serious assault person over 60.

His bail was denied, and he will appear in Cairns Magistrates Court today.
