Police kept busy overnight

A SERIES of incidents unfolded in Cairns overnight, prompting swift responses from law enforcement and multiple arrests.

Disturbance in White Rock

On February 8 at around 2pm, Cairns police were dispatched to a disturbance at a residence in White Rock.

Allegedly, a heated argument between a 16-year-old girl and a 59-year-old man escalated and culminated in the girl stabbing the man with a pair of scissors. Both individuals were acquainted with each other.

Upon arrival, officers administered first aid to the injured man before being transported to Cairns Hospital for further treatment.

The teenage girl, resisting arrest, allegedly assaulted a police officer. The officer sustained no serious injuries.

The 16-year-old faces charges of common assault, wounding, and assaulting a police officer and is set to appear in the Cairns Children’s Court.

Drug-Related Charges in Mooroobool

Responding to a disturbance on Beatrice Street in Mooroobool at approximately 8:30pm last night, police conducted a search of the premises.

Officers purportedly discovered methamphetamine, cannabis, and drug paraphernalia and consequently, a 36-year-old Mooroobool man and a 26-year-old Caravonica woman were charged with possession of dangerous drugs and possession of drug utensils.

Both are slated to appear in the Cairns Magistrates Court on February 29.

Property Offences in Smithfield

Smithfield Criminal Investigation Branch detectives apprehended a 13-year-old girl in Smithfield on February 8 in connection with multiple property-related offences.

Allegedly, between October and November, the girl was involved in various acts of property damage, theft, and trespassing across Smithfield, Cairns, and Palm Cove.

The charges against her include wilful damage, stealing, and trespassing. She is due to appear in the Cairns Children’s Court.

Trinity Beach Incident: Teenagers Arrested

In another incident, detectives from the Cairns Property Crime Squad arrested four teenage girls on February 8 after they reportedly entered a unit in Trinity Beach.

Following the alleged theft of car keys and a Mitsubishi Outlander from the property, the vehicle was recovered by police which led to the arrest of the teenagers.

The 17-year-old Manoora girl faces charges of unlawful use of a motor vehicle and obstruction, while a 16-year-old from Edmonton is charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and stealing.

Additionally, a 15-year-old from Westcourt and a 17-year-old from Bentley Park each face a charge of unlawful use of a motor vehicle. All are set to appear in the Cairns Children’s Court.
