Officers from Cairns Highway Patrol have charged two people after the vehicle they were allegedly travelling in was intercepted last night. It will be alleged around 10.30 pm; officers directed the vehicle to pull over on McLeod Street. The driver of the vehicle, a 43-year-old Mooroobool woman, allegedly returned a positive result to a roadside drug test. It will be further alleged during a search of the car, officers located clip-seal bags containing several tablets alleged to be methylenedioxymethamphetamine (MDMA), a white powder alleged to be cocaine and several drug utensils.
The woman was transported to Cairns Police Station for further drug testing, where she allegedly returned another positive result. She was charged with one count of drug driving and was issued a Notice to Appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on Friday, June 9. A 46-year-old Bungalow man who was a passenger in the car was charged with one count each of possessing dangerous drugs and possessing utensils. He was issued a Notice to Appear in Cairns Magistrates Court on Friday, May 19.
Appeal for witnesses: Armed robbery with violence, Parramatta Park
Police are appealing for witnesses following an armed robbery at Parramatta Park yesterday. Around 5.15 pm, a 16-year-old boy was riding a scooter along a bike path connecting Grove and Fearnley Streets when another boy approached him and demanded property while threatening him with a knife. The victim complied. However, the other boy assaulted him, punching him in the face and kicking him in the leg. The victim was able to flag down another member of the public, who phoned the police and waited with him until they arrived shortly after. He sustained minor injuries. The boy fled the scene riding a small red BMX-style bike toward Fearnley Street. The teenager is described as First Nations, with a slim build and approximately 170 cm tall. He wore a black hoodie with white writing on the front and dark-coloured shorts and shoes. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or have relevant CCTV or dashcam vision is urged to contact police.
