Police impersonator arrested

A SERIAL police impersonator has finally been arrested after Tully officers executed a search warrant at a Wongaling Beach address on Sunday 1 October.

Officers received a report of a man impersonating a police officer on the Bruce Highway in Cardwell on around 11am on August 21.

It will be alleged a 59-year-old Wongaling Beach man has been involved in a road rage incident with another driver whilst travelling south bound on the Bruce Highway at Cardwell.

During the incident it is alleged he has activated red and blue emergency lights on the front and rear of his silver Jeep wagon to pull the other vehicle over and subject them to verbal abuse.

During the search officers located the vehicle and confirmed a blue and red LED light system had been hardwired into the vehicle.

The man has been charged with one count each of personating a public officer and drive without due care and attention. He is due to appear in the Tully Magistrates Court on 26 October.

Officers believe this is not a single act and he is responsible for further like offences, with in the Cardwell and Tully area.

Officers are seeking information from anyone who has been intercepted by or have observed a silver Jeep wagon displaying red and blue emergency lights in similar circumstances between Tully, Mackay and Moranbah to come forward to make a report. Witnesses or anyone who has relevant dash-cam vision are encouraged to contact police.

If you have information for police, contact Policelink by providing information using the online suspicious activity form 24hrs per day on the Queensland Police website. www.police.qld.gov.au/reporting.
