Police: Smithfield Incident

Queensland Police is aware of videos circulating on social media in relation to the alleged assault of a seven-year-old girl at a playground along Mount Milman Drive in the afternoon on Sunday, March 26.

This matter has been reported to the police, and the main alleged offender has been charged in relation to it. Police are working through the material to identify the other young people involved in making and distributing the material.

In relation to these types of incidents, people are asked to report their concerns to the police and allow investigators to look into these matters.

Queensland Police are working with the office of the eSafety Commissioner to remove the content in question. The continuing sharing of the material is causing considerable distress to the victim’s child’s family.

We encourage members of the public not to share the video.

If you witness an assault, you should report it to the police.

We also encourage anyone to report serious online abuse to the platform it appears on, to Queensland Police or to eSafety.gov.au, so it can be taken down.

When it comes to social media engagement, the Queensland Police Service is a leader among law enforcement agencies.

Unfortunately, police have noticed a frustrating trend of people posting about crime or suspicious behaviour in their neighbourhood on social media without notifying police directly.

If you have information for the police, contact Policelink by providing information using the suspicious online activity form 24hrs per day at www.police.qld.gov.au/reporting or call 131 444.

Report crime information anonymously via Crime Stoppers. Call 1800 333 000 or report online at www.crimestoppersqld.com.au.
