Drink driving, Yungaburra

At about 4.45 pm on April 17, police intercepted a vehicle on Gillies Range Road and conducted a roadside breath test. The 44-year-old Atherton man driver allegedly returned a breath alcohol reading of 0.132 per cent BAC and was taken to the Yungaburra Police Station for further testing. He was charged with driving whilst under the influence of liquor (mid-range drink driving), and his licence was immediately disqualified. The 44-year-old Atherton man is scheduled to appear in the Atherton Magistrates Court on May 9.

Break and enter, Mareeba

Police have charged four youths following several incidents in Mareeba between April 16 and 19. It is alleged that a 13-year-old Mareeba boy attended a sporting club on Riordan Street sometime between midnight April 16 and midnight April 17, caused damage to the roof and stole sporting equipment from the premises. It is further alleged that the 13-year-old Mareeba boy, in company with three other boys, broke into a business on Strattmann Street around 3 am on April 17 and stole a 4-wheeler motorbike. The bike was allegedly used at an attempted break-in to another business on Byrnes Street.

Police allege that the boys all drove the motorbike without a helmet and in a dangerous manner and used the bike to do burnouts and skids around Granite Creek Esplanade. Two 13-year-old Mareeba boys were charged with one count each of entering a premise and committing an indictable offence, attempted to enter premises and unlawful use of motor vehicle, and one count each of breach of bail, dangerous operation of a vehicle, entering premises and commit an indictable offence, enter premises with intent to commit, interfere with fire apparatus and unlawful use of motor vehicle, respectively.

They are set to appear in the Mareeba Childrens Court.  A 12-year-old Mareeba boy was charged with entering premises and committing an indictable offence and attempted to enter the premises and has been dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act. A 13-year-old Mareeba boy was charged with three counts of entering a premise and committing an indictable offence and three counts of wilful damage and has been dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
