Development to boost economy

TABLELANDS Regional Council (TRC) is seeking expressions of interest (EOI) for the purchase and development of freehold lots within the Priors Creek Development in Atherton.

The Priors Creek Development will create a family-oriented public space, transforming Atherton’s CBD and providing a destination for residents and visitors to meet, play, chat, and connect.

TRC mayor Rod Marti said there are limited commercial opportunities as part of this $20M project.

“These freehold lots occupy key locations for future public events and activities,” he said.

Sites range from 466m² to 4945m² in area, depending on lot configurations, and intended uses include a mix of residential and holiday accommodation, retail, leisure and entertainment opportunities.

“The development of the Priors Creek area will include an urban plaza for markets, a 1000-person amphitheatre, nature-based playground, shared pathways and Indigenous culture and public art,” Cr Marti said.

“The project will also incorporate the established Atherton Tablelands Rail Trail and Atherton Forest Mountain Bike Park.”

TRC is working with Colliers Cairns to conduct the EOI process for the freehold lots and submissions are being accepted until 4pm Thursday 31 August.

The development will progress in stages, with Stage 1 construction set for late 2023. It will boost economic activity, both short- and long-term, and deliver significant community benefits.
