A 27-year-old man was arrested this morning after police received reports of an alleged robbery in Florence Street. It will be alleged around 11.50 pm, the man approached a 68-year-old man standing outside a medical centre and demanded he hand over his suitcase before assaulting the man and taking the suitcase. A witness attempted to intervene but was allegedly threatened by the man with a knife. Police conducted patrols locating the 27-year-old man a short time later. He was charged with one count each of robbery and going armed to cause fear and two counts of common assault. The man was denied bail and is expected to appear in Cairns Magistrates Court today.
