Secure your boats ahead of cyclone

AS Tropical Cyclone Jasper approaches the Far North Queensland coastline, boaties whose vessels cannot be removed from the water are being urged to implement their severe weather mooring plan.

Cairns Water Police Sergeant Andrew Ibell said there are many boaties in the area that will choose to live aboard their vessels during the severe weather period.

“Please check your communication systems including mobile phones and marine radios,” he said.

“Make sure you advise a reliable family member or friend where you will be mooring your vessel and the contact numbers you can be reached on, to confirm your welfare after the cyclone has passed.

“If you are moving off your boat again it is wise to let someone know where you will be and contact them after the weather system has passed.

“Please keep an eye on your fellow boaties and if someone looks like they need assistance, give them a hand if safe to do so.”
