A PASSION for reading and storytelling with children and families has culminated in a coveted Australian Schools Library Association (ASLA) Library Advocate Award for Trinity Anglican School’s (TAS) Kewarra Beach campus librarian, Danielle Harte.
Ms Harte’s commitment to literacy and learning and the pivotal role school libraries play in fostering connection have earned national recognition by introducing innovative programming and weekly classes for all students that seamlessly blend literacy with nature experiences.
Ms Harte said she is excited and humbled to be the recipient of this year’s School Library Advocate Award.
“As the school library coordinator, I have shared my love for books and stories and the joy that brings,” she said.
“I have witnessed the transformative impact of a school library and how creating an inclusive space where everyone feels safe, connected, and inspired to learn and grow as a transformative impact on children and families.
“As an advocate, I will strive to continue championing the importance of school libraries in nurturing future generations.
“This recognition would not have been possible without the unwavering support of my colleagues at TAS and the many mentors throughout my career. I am grateful for their encouragement and willingness to embrace innovative ideas.”
TAS’ Kewarra Beach campus Head of Primary, Mrs Mary Kershaw, congratulated Ms Harte and said staff, families, and students genuinely appreciate her efforts to nurture future generations through the Tung-Yep Library hub.
“Danielle’s outstanding dedication as the Tung-Yep Library Coordinator is commendable, as she tirelessly and passionately promotes the joys of reading and storytelling to our students and families,” Mrs Kershaw said.
“Her advocacy for our school library as a crucial literacy, connection, and inclusion hub is inspiring.
“She fosters an environment where everyone can thrive and learn, from teaching engaging and interactive library lessons to implementing initiatives such as bush library, lunchtime clubs, Rhyme Time, Story Walks and pop-up outdoor library projects.”
