Teen girls charged after joyride

POLICE have charged two girls after a McElhinney Street business was allegedly broken into in Mareeba on Sunday morning.

It will be alleged the two girls entered the business at about 4am and stole a vehicle.

It will further be alleged the girls dangerously drove the vehicle through Mareeba. 

Police intercepted the vehicle on Hansen Road at about 10.40am and arrested the two girls.

A 13-year-old Atherton girl was charged with one count each of enter premises and unlawful use of motor vehicle. 

She is scheduled to appear in the Mareeba Children’s Court at a later date.

A 14-year-old Mareeba girl was charged with one count each of enter premises and commit indictable offence, evade police, unlawful use of motor vehicle and dangerous operation of motor vehicle and has been dealt with under the provisions of the Youth Justice Act.
