CAIRNS tour company Tropic Wings has won the Environmental Innovation Award at the 2024 Queensland Bus Industry Council (QBIC) Industry Awards.
This recognition underscores Tropic Wings’ continued commitment to environmental sustainability and innovation in the tourism industry.
Tropic Wings has been a trailblazer in promoting environmental stewardship and innovation for many years.
With a mission to foster passion for nature and deliver transformational experiences, the multi-award-winning company has become synonymous with eco-friendly tourism practices.
Having been an eco-certified business for over two decades, Tropic Wings’ latest initiative involves introducing 12 new battery electric vehicles (BEVs) with plans to transition 80% of its vehicles to electric by 2028.
This initiative, supported by partners such as EnergyAustralia and the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), marks a significant step towards reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable transportation solutions.
Additionally, the company continues offsetting emissions by planting trees in local reforestation projects, contributing to ecosystem restoration and biodiversity conservation
Tropic Wings General Manager Colin Anderson said they are honoured to receive the Environmental Innovation Award from QBIC, which recognises Tropic Wings’ ongoing efforts to promote sustainability and innovation in the tourism industry.
“We remain committed to leading by example and inspiring others to adopt eco-friendly practices for a greener future,” he said.
Tropic Wings’ initiatives not only benefit the environment but also enhance the visitor experience in Tropical North Queensland.
By transitioning to electric vehicles and promoting sustainable tourism practices, the company is creating a cleaner, quieter, and more enjoyable environment for tourists and local communities alike.
