Unlicensed man caught drink driving

A 32-year-old Tolga man who has never held a licence has been arrested for drink driving in Mareeba.

Officers allegedly observed the Toyota Echo the man was driving fail to stop at the level crossing before turning left onto Strattman Street, driving on the incorrect side of the road, whilst swerving from one side of road to the other.

The man continued to drive down the middle of the road around a bend and onto Ferguson Street, before he stopped his vehicle.

Officers conducted a roadside breath test, and he was transported to Mareeba station for further testing where he allegedly returned a reading of 0.072 per cent BAC.

The man has been charged with one count each of drive without due care, drive a motor vehicle without a driver licence (never held) and low range drink driving. He is scheduled to appear at the Mareeba Magistrates Court on 16 October.
