A 42-YEAR-OLD North Cairns resident is facing a slew of charges related to drugs and weapons following a police operation at an Esplanade unit on 11 February.
According to Cairns Criminal Investigation Branch detectives officers allegedly discovered the man in possession of methylamphetamine and associated drug paraphernalia upon entering the unit. Additionally, he was allegedly found with a taser and a flick knife.
The individual has been charged with possession of dangerous drugs, unlawful possession of weapons, possession of an item for use in the commission of a crime, and possession of drug utensils. His bail was denied and he was scheduled to appear before Cairns Magistrates Court today, 12 February.
In a separate incident, officers from Cairns Property Crime Unit arrested and charged a 25-year-old man from Bentley Park after an extensive investigation.
It is alleged that between 6 August last year and 4 February this year, the man was involved in the supply of dangerous drugs from a Bentley Park residence.
Following the execution of a warrant at the man’s address on 4 February, police reportedly found a quantity of dangerous drugs and evidence suggesting the exchange of stolen property for drugs.
The man faces a litany of charges, including twenty-three counts of supplying dangerous drugs, seventeen counts of receiving tainted property, two counts of fraud, one count of supplying dangerous drugs to a minor, and one count of trafficking in dangerous drugs. He is set to appear before Cairns Magistrates Court on 6 March.
