Youth arrested after assault and robbery

OFFICERS from Cairns Property Crime Unit have charged a 14-year-old North Cairns girl after she allegedly assaulted a 19-year-old German tourist on 6 December.

At around 7.30pm, the 19-year-old was waiting for a bus on Sheridan St when she was approached by a group demanding money from her.

After refusing their demands, the 14-year-old girl allegedly punched the victim multiple times before taking money from her.

Investigations into the identities of the others in the group are ongoing.

Police believe the 14-year-old girl had been involved in multiple other offences in the Cairns area over the previous several months.

The girl was charged with one count each of robbery and assault and four counts of enter premises and commit offence. She was dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.
