Youth arrested over dangerous driving

TWO 17-year-old boys have been charged with dangerous driving following an incident at North Cairns on Sunday morning.

It will be alleged at 1.30pm on 21 January, a tyre deflation device was used to stop a stolen vehicle on James Street.

The vehicle had allegedly been involved in actively evading police since being first spotted at Edmonton at 10.30am on the same day.

The boys abandoned the vehicle in Calgoa Close, Bentley Park at 2pm, before being located by police nearby shortly after.

A 17-year-old Holloways Beach boy was charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a vehicle, evasion, unlawful use of motor vehicle and driving unlicensed. He was refused bail and appeared before Cairns Childrens Court on 22 January.

A 17-year-old White Rock boy was charged with one count of unlawful use of motor vehicle and he is due to appear before Cairns Childrens Court, 24 January.
