Youth charged for stolen vehicles

CAIRNS detectives from the Property Crime Unit have charged five youths after they fled from a stolen vehicle on Mayers Street in Manunda last Sunday.

It will be alleged just after 10pm on Saturday, the youths broke into a Goldberg Close property and stole a white Mitsubishi station wagon.

Officers from the Tactical Crime Squad successfully deployed a tyre deflation device on the stolen vehicle at around 10am on Sunday.

The vehicle was abandoned, and the group was located by police a short distance away.

A 15-year-old Edmonton boy was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, obstruct police and three counts of breaching a bail condition – he was denied police bail.

A 16-year-old Manunda girl was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle and obstructing a police officer, she was released on strict bail conditions.

A 14-year-old Mount Sheridan girl was charged with unlawful use of motor vehicle and obstructing police, she was refused police bail.

An 11-year-old Mount Sheridan boy was charged with three counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, two counts each of serious assault and unlicenced driving, and one count each of entering a dwelling, receiving tainted property and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. He was refused police bail and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Childrens Court.

A 14-year-old Manoora boy was charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle, burglary and obstruct police, he will be dealt with under the Youth Justice Act.
